Cat coat patterns can be so different! 🐈
The More You Look, the More Interesting: A Cat Coat Pattern Encyclopedia
When you look at cats, you'll notice that even among the same species, their fur colors and patterns are incredibly diverse.
Some cats have striped patterns, while others have distinct black and white markings, and some have a mix of various colors.
"What is this pattern called?"
"What's the difference between a Mackerel Tabby and a Brown Tabby?"
Even cat lovers might find themselves surprised by how much they don't know about cat coat patterns. 🐈✨
This time, we've gathered the most common patterns of familiar cats and created a "Cat Coat Pattern Encyclopedia." 🐾
Try to find a pattern that resembles your beloved cat! 😽
🐾 Mackerel Tabby

A "Mackerel Tabby" has gray to silver fur with dark striped patterns.
In Japan, they are called "Saba Tora" (mackerel tabby) because their coloring resembles a mackerel. 🐟
There are also "Saba Shiro" (mackerel and white) cats that have white markings.
Despite their cool coloring, the striped patterns give them an undeniable feline cuteness. 🐈🩶
🐈 Orange Tabby

"Orange Tabbies" have bright orange or brown as their base color with darker striped patterns.
Many cats clearly show their stripes on their face, tail, and paws. 🐈🧡
Besides those with an entirely orange tabby pattern, there are also "Orange Tabby and White" cats with white markings on their belly or paws.
This is a popular cat pattern with a lovely warm color.
🖤 Brown Tabby

"Brown Tabbies" have a brown base color with dark striped patterns.
They are similar to Mackerel Tabbies, but the main difference is that Mackerel Tabbies are gray-based, while Brown Tabbies are brown-based. 🐾
Some may even have an "M" shaped pattern on their forehead.
Their wild-like coloring and fine stripes are captivating. 🐈✨
🤍 Bi-Color (Hachiware)

Cats with a bi-color face pattern where the color splits from the forehead into two halves, resembling the kanji character for "hachi" (八, meaning eight), are called "Hachiware."
Many people might imagine a black and white Hachiware, but they aren't just black.
There are Hachiware cats with various fur colors, including brown and gray. 🐈💕
It's interesting how the way the patterns are arranged can significantly change the impression of their face.
🤎 Calico

"Calico cats" have three colors: white, black, and brown (or orange).
Since the size and arrangement of the patterns vary from cat to cat, each calico cat has a unique appearance. 🐈✨
Some have clearly separated colors, while others have finely blended patterns.
They are truly cats whose unique patterns can be enjoyed.
🖤 Black Cat

Black cats are covered in entirely black fur.
While they may appear uniformly black at first glance, their fur can look slightly brownish depending on the light, and each individual hair strand has its own expression.
And against the black fur, their eye color truly stands out. 🐈✨
Black cat motifs are also popular at Cats of Philosophii. 🐾
🤍 White Cat

White cats are covered in pure white fur.
Their pink noses and paw pads stand out beautifully, adding to their charm. 😽💕
Their eye colors also vary, including blue and gold, and some white cats even have "odd eyes" with different colored eyes.
Even with the same pattern, every cat is unique. 🐈
When you look at them all together like this, there really are so many different cat patterns.
Furthermore, even within the same "Orange Tabby" or "Bi-color" patterns, the intensity of the stripes, the placement of white areas, and the facial markings are unique to each individual cat.
That's why,
"This cat looks a bit like my cat!"
It's also fun to find cats that make you feel that way. 🐾💕
At Cats of Philosophii, we also create items inspired by these cat patterns in our "Print Nyan Series."

There are five types: Mackerel Tabby, Orange Tabby, Calico, Bi-color (brown), and Bi-color (black). 🐈✨
